For FTP transfers in Windows I use Core FTP LE,
this version of Core is available free.

Cyberduck 2.4b4, this is available free.

For FTP transfers on any Mac legacy OS we use Fetch,
this is available as a 15 day time limited trial version.

Skype is great software that gives you a software phone using
your internet connection, Once set up you can contact other Skype users completely free, I have found the call quality to be excellent. You will of course need speakers and and a mic.
